Now
more than ever, in today’s economy horse owners, breeders, trainers, and anyone
interested in purchasing yearlings at auction, need to be able to maximize
their investment in Thoroughbreds. The Classic
Champion Thoroughbred Profile®
is the tool that can help you get the best return on the dollar.
As
a sales analytical tool, the Classic Champion
Thoroughbred Profile® has a proven track record of taking the guesswork
out of buying horses at auction by helping investors zero
in on the horses that have the best potential to become stakes and graded
stakes winners or, perhaps, a Classic Champion Thoroughbred.
Success Stories
The
most recent success of the Classic Champion
Thoroughbred Profile® to pick horses at auction is Mr. Big News who
won the Oaklawn Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
A bay colt by Giant's Causeway out of Unappeased (IRE) by
Galileo (IRE), Mr. Big News has an A+ Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® (Hip 3) and he was one of 48
yearlings profiled by Classic Champion Thoroughbreds, LLC at the 2018
Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale.
However, Josh Stevens and Allied Racing Stable, LLC (not our
clients) were the fortunate connections that purchased Mr. Big News for the bargain
price of $95,000.
Mr.
Big News was
ranked third on our profile list and he is only one success story of many yearlings profiled by Classic Champion Thoroughbreds,
LLC at auction that went on to be successful in racing.
In
2016, we debuted our Classic Champion
Thoroughbred Profile® software as a sales analytical
tool at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling
Sale.
From that sale, four yearlings went on to compete in the 2018 Kentucky Derby: Best
of Sale Pick Good
Magic (2017 Eclipse Champion Two Year Old Male), Vino Rosso (2019 Eclipse
Champion Older Dirt Male), Solomini and Free Drop Billy.
Country House was not sold at auction but he is a colt we profiled (Hip 2203) as a
yearling at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and he won the 2019
Kentucky Derby.
Unlike other companies that
provide automatic computer-generated pedigree analysis of yearlings at auction,
Classic Champion Thoroughbreds LLC personally handpicks from the sales catalog
all yearlings to
be profiled at auction based upon their breeding.
The ability to know the potential of a horse before he goes to the
breeding shed, sales ring or racetrack is of utmost importance. Since the debut
of our software as a sales analysis tool, we now have a total of 55 horses
profiled at auction that have won or placed in national and international
stakes competition.
Powerful Racing Analysis Tool
In addition to being a powerful sales analytical tool, the Classic
Champion Thoroughbred Profile® is a proven racing analytical tool that shows
horse owners and trainers the best race distance that their horse will have the
most success, be it in sprint racing, middle-distance or routing. The profile
can help owners and trainers spot their horses in stakes races where they will
have success by analyzing the profiles of other horses entered in the race.
Mr. Big News winning the Oaklawn Stakes is a great example of the Classic Champion
Thoroughbred Profile® and it’s power to help owners and trainers spot horses in races where they will
have the most success.
In the Oaklawn Stakes, Mr. Big News’ profile ranking towered
over the other horses entered in the race and he’s the kind of horse I look for
when handicapping horses on the Kentucky Derby Trail. (My outstanding track
record of picking these horses is documented in numerous blog posts.)
The Oaklawn Stakes was not a Derby prep race, however, the pedigree
of Mr. Big News showed that, if he lived up to his breeding, he had the
potential to step up in class and pull off the upset. And. Indeed, he stepped
up and won at 46.80-1 odds.
Here's a look at the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® ranking
of the horses entered in the Oaklawn Stakes.
The Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® is a powerful analytical tool that measures the breeding, sales and racing potential of Thoroughbreds. The profile measures the breeding influences found in the five-generation pedigree, and it assigns the subject horse or foal a numerical score and grade ranking which is the indicator of that horse’s potential. The higher the score, the more potential that horse or foal has in becoming a quality stakes winner or classic champion.
For example, in the charts above, Mr. Big News
profile ranking has him ranked first while the Brisnet Prime Power has him
ranked dead last in a field of 13.
One
anomaly that was evident in the early days of the profile, was that there were
several horses on the Kentucky Derby Trail that had low profile scores, and
yet, they were stepping up and winning or placing in major prep races on the
trail. In order to account for that, we created the Behavior Index which has the potential to move
some horses with low profile scores up in ranking. It also can move some horses
with high profile scores down in ranking.
For
example, in the chart above Basin has an F profile and when you apply
his Behavior Index that moves him up to an A profile and he’s ranked in the top
four. Farmington Road has an E profile and when you apply his Behavior
Index that moves him up to a B profile but that was still not enough to move
him up into the top four. The same for Taishan who has a F profile. His
Behavior Index moves him up to a B profile but that was not enough to move him
into the top four.
Thousand
Words has a B
profile ranking and his Behavior Index moves him up to an A profile. If he had
not stumbled at the start, Thousand Words probably would have finished in the top
four.
The
Behavior Index shows that some horses with low profile scores, like Farmington
Road, Basin and Taishan, can potentially be competitive up to
8½ to 9 furlongs while only a few horses with low scores can be competitive at
10 furlongs. For example, Outwork has a low E profile ranking and he ran on the 2016 Kentucky
Derby Trail. His Behavior Index indicated that he could, perhaps, be
competitive in the nine-furlong Wood Memorial Stakes (G1), and, indeed, Outwork
went on to win the Wood. However, in the Kentucky Derby (G1) his grade ranking had
him ranked sixteenth and he finished fourteenth.
The empirical data gathered by the robust power of the Classic
Champion Thoroughbred Profile® software easily shows which horses at breeding
and auction have the potential to be quality stakes winners or classic
champions.
From foal to finish line™, the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® is
a proven analytical tool you need for breeding, purchasing horses at auction,
