( ie..I'm not part of the Barbaro Blog)Nicanor took a bit to develope. It may be the same for Lentanor. But Greg (from a my novice opinion) I agree that Matz's decision is a bit more agressive than his normal, take some time, conservative route.

Either way, I'll be keeping him on nmy Horse Watch to see what develops.
A great question to ponder. Thanks!

SR Vegas
BTW...I also look forward to Calvin's derby watch list!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!SR Vegasnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-8878953806260440822009-12-23T09:04:21.595-05:002009-12-23T09:04:21.595-05:00Greg J.,
Thank you for reading my blog and the ni...Greg J.,

Thank you for reading my blog and the nice compliment.

I liked Barbaro too and he was my pick for the Kentucky Derby. As you mentioned, I did notice that Lentenor had troubled trips in his first two starts and still managed to finish in the money. I suspect that Michael Matz sees a spark of something that may be special in Lentenor and that is why he is giving him a chance in the Tropical Park Derby.

If Lentenor runs well in the Tropical Park Derby he most likely will be on my next Derby list. Or, I may wait until after the running of the Tropical Park Derby to come out with my first Derby list – I’m anxious to see how well Lentenor performs.

Greg, it is very rare for full siblings to have the same measure of success on the racetrack. Usually one of the offsping is the most outstanding and excels above the others.

The best example that I could think of full brothers and sisters having much success were the colts and fillies produced by Danehill and Hasili. Their union produced five outstanding offspring:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/progeny/hasili

Dansili: 14, 5-4-3 = $570,686
Cacique: 18, 7-5-1 = $1,462,331
Banks Hill: 15, 5-5-3 = $1,824,008
Intercontinental: 22, 13-3-4 = $2,052,463
Champs Elysees: 29, 6-9-7 = $2,931,818

Again, thanks for reading the blog. I’m looking forward to following the juveniles with you on the Kentucky Derby Trail.Calvin Carterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10135059434890408890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-42566766132531882192009-12-22T19:40:15.136-05:002009-12-22T19:40:15.136-05:00Mr. Carter,
Enjoy your writing and opinions...Mr. Carter,

Enjoy your writing and opinions, First time poster and long time fan/historian of this great sport. Looking forward to you Derby list, Hope you look outside the box and pick a few surprises. Two questions for you, Myself and a friend were discussing pedigrees yesterday and it was announced that Barbaro's baby brother, Lentenor, Was entered in the Tropical Park Derby(G3) at Calder on Jan. 1st. While still being a maiden after running two impressive races with nothing but trouble from start to wire and still hitting the board in both races, We were somewhat surprised on the bold move of Mr. Matz to enter Lentenor in this race, Grant you, It is a grade three race, But, The nomination list is quite impressive for just turned three year olds. He is taking almost the same exact route that Barbaro took(Barbaro won this race in 2006). Anyways, Lentenor is my long shot for the Derby, With that being said, Two questions for you. First, What is your opinion on Lentenor and are you surprised Mr. Matz has entered a maiden in a stakes race?(OK, That was two questions). Second, While discussing Lentenor, We asked ourselves if their has ever been three full brothers that has excelled like these three?(Yes, Lentenor is still a work in progress, Nicanor had two impressive wins on the turf then got injured before the Virginia Derby and will be back in the Spring, And, There is Barbaro, Really don't need to say much about him). Curious on your thoughts? Thank You in advance and keep up the good work---Greg J.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-54052703773484686242009-12-21T21:21:15.011-05:002009-12-21T21:21:15.011-05:00Anonymous,

But, BLIND LUCK ran an amazing race. She look absolutely MONSTROUS. Her times are equal to the colts at this phase of the game. Your thoughts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
