Eskendereya comes to mind.

War Academy is a horse I like on this year's trail and I wrote about him in my 2013 Kentucky Derby Outlook. He's trained by Bob Baffert and he's yet to earn any Derby points.

If he's a good horse, Baffert will give him a shot and I'm looking forward to see him later this season.

Again, thanks for the question.

Calvin Carterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10135059434890408890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-55939002871017586192013-03-07T13:26:29.464-05:002013-03-07T13:26:29.464-05:00VQ, tell that guy JVH that Phar Lap is a BSB 1*2*3... VQ, tell that guy JVH that Phar Lap is a BSB 1*2*3 and he's HEAVILY loaded with 1s & 2s. BSB 1*2*3s don't come along everyday. Phar Lap has as many 1s as Dr Fager and more 2s.

His other race is unbalanced. 3/4s of the horses are one way frontrunners or pressers. Then there is a couple of trackers & stalkers. I think there's only two legit closers in the race and one of them is the fastest closer ever on the main track. At least the ones in the Champions book. Based on Z being the unbalanced horse she'd be 80% to place. Even if she wasn't Z !!! VQ, Calvin can probably answer better than me on this ,buttZ... Storm Cat tops can get the distance IMO. I don't think they've Won the Derby ? They have won the Preakness & Belmont. Storm Cat as a sire had no tendency to get (A) particular type of runner. He's hard to type . He had a big range.

Sometimes these jinxs are hard to explain ;-) Like the Damascus jinx. There is *ONLY* one derby winner each year is one way to explain it. Mr.Prospector himself only had one Derby winner and that didn't come until his last crop.

It was already being said for 10 yrs that Bold Ruler couldn't get a Derby winner then he got Secretariat !!

So while Storm Cat didn't sire a Derby horse I wouldn't go as far as to say his line can't. And/Or if it is just a Derby thing ,its not distance buttZ... Track surface ,climate, or something else like that.

Calvin probably knows if Storm Cats can win other races at Churchill ? Blue Grass Cat ran 2nd in the Derby. Calvin might remember some other Storm Cats that hit the Board ? Birdstone, Mine That Bird & Summer Bird aren't Storm Cats buttZ... they are Storm Birds.

Peace
BSB Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-23652593352666451182013-03-07T12:01:30.355-05:002013-03-07T12:01:30.355-05:00Calvin or BSB OR ANYONE,can u tell about Storm Cat...Calvin or BSB OR ANYONE,can u tell about Storm Cat whether as a sire/broodmare sire or whatever if his offspring can get a classic distance.

VQ Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-47737646926320634742013-03-06T23:28:41.057-05:002013-03-06T23:28:41.057-05:00Calvin , I saw a list today that had Phar Lap on i... Calvin , I saw a list today that had Phar Lap on it. I checked him out. He's got 13) 1s , * 8)2s * 3) 3s . He's a 1 * 2 * 3 ! He had the sweet blood in large doses. Just a side note I thought you might like. :)

Trying to scare me with that tidbit about VeranZano ? ;) I'll stand against him anyway while respecting the knowledge and tidbit. Cerro's off the board finish in the Fountain of Youth Stakes also was a factor in my analysis.

However, a win by Sky Captain would be no surprise as you noted, he has a good pedigree. The tail-female of Sky Captain descends from La Troienne. In addition, the tail-female of his sire, Sky Mesa, and damsire, Smarty Jones, also descend from La Troienne.

Overall, I think this is a competitive race and looking forward to see who takes first-place honors.
Calvin Carterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10135059434890408890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6923306023768834171.post-46964959710694545512013-03-02T12:03:19.857-05:002013-03-02T12:03:19.857-05:00Calvin, I think you over looked a BIG SLEEPER! in ...Calvin, I think you over looked a BIG SLEEPER! in the Gotham.

Sky Captain is sitting in huge race.
This Keeneland sale for 210K is a special horse that will get the distance. His last effort was a good first time two turns and will improve greatly from the effort.

Did you know this colt dam is Half-sister to Eight Belles, one of only two fillies to place second in the Kentucky Derby. Also, they recently breed again in 2012, a colt by Sky Mesa as his FULL BROTHER.

This colt is going to make some noise today in the Gotham.

Look for a powerful effort. It won't take much more improvement to win this contest. Time to earn that 210K back and more.Barry Reed Mitchellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13903316583409905690noreply@blogger.com
